January 12, 2011 Leave a comment

“Morning Sage Elk” by Christopher Walden is now available for bidding at Kim’s Family Diner in Cicero.  In the print you see a group of elk moving through a field of snow dusted sage and grasses.  Around them is a forest of pine with their needles heavy with snow.  The elk’s breath is visible in the morning light.  As the elks move you can feel the cold.

Christopher Walden is a fabulous nature painter.  He works with many conservation groups.  Born in New Zealand he brought his passion for the outdoors to the States.  His work is detailed and has garnered him many awards.  His paintings sell between $8,500 and $15,000 but you can get this print for a fraction of that.  There is a reserve on bids and bidding must start at $100.00  When you’re in the area, stop by and see this brilliant print.

A New Print is Up At Herb Phillipsons — Bidding Ends Feb. 6th

A beautiful print by Reese

This beautiful print is now up for bidding at Herb Phillipsons.  The piece is called “Weedy Draw — Ring Necked Pheasants”.  The scene is that of farmland.  The sky is big and blue, and the land is gently rolling prairie.  In the distance is a windmill, a barn, and a storage shed.  Near the you, the observer, four pheasants have been startled and are taking flight in different directions.  The observer could be a hunter or someone out for a walk around the farm.

The artist is Maynard Reece.  He was born in 1920 and grew up in Northwestern Iowa.  He’s won many awards and he contributes his time and resources to many conservation groups.  His artwork has been highly praised for its accuracy in an animal’s colorization, placement of feathers, plants within the animals habitat, etc.  Even if you don’t intend to bid on this piece I recommend that you take the time to come out and see it.  It is gorgeous.

As with all SBA prints a reserve price must be met.  The minimum bid for this piece is $100.

Image of the print, "Bad Angle Buck II"

A new print is now up at Kim’s Cicero Diner.  The print, “Bad Angle Buck II”, was done by James Brett Smith.  In it you see a beautiful buck walking through the woods.  Off in the distance is a hunter up in a tree stand who catches site of the deer, but is at a bad angle to even try to take a shot.  The sun is setting behind the hunter.  The fallen leaves on the forest floor catch the light and give the buck partial camouflage.  You can feel the excitement, the wonder, and the sense of loss the hunter must be feeling as the animal walks away.

A good article about the history of the hunting stamp and the lament that there are fewer artists to create the stamps.

Sealed Bid Auctions At Two Locations

June 10, 2010 Leave a comment

The Sealed Bid Auction (SBA) Program is a fund raising effort that allows Ducks Unlimited to raise money and raise awareness of DU.  With the program we place beautiful framed prints in a retail or restaurant setting and allow the public to bid on them.  We collect bids over a 4 week period.  At the end of that time the highest bid, which exceeds the cost of the picture gets the print for that price.

We are proud to say that two businesses in the area are hosting us in this effort.  I encourage everyone to visit them and view our prints on display.

The businesses are:

Kim’s Cicero Family Dinner
8319 Brewerton Road
Cicero, NY. 13039-9463
~~~~~~~~~~
Herb Philipson’s – Army & Navy Stores
Glen Crossing Plaza
Rt. 57, 7421 Oswego Rd
Liverpool, NY 13090
The paintings change monthly.  Visit often to see what is on display.
