Oil spill workers prepare to evacuate as storm approaches Gulf of Mexico

Oil spill workers prepare to evacuate as storm approaches Gulf of Mexico.

Workers plan to leave the Gulf as a storm threatens the area.  They will open the cap and allow the oil to flow freely.  If the cap is unmonitored for 3 to 4 days the fear is that unrepairable damage could occur making a bad situation worse.

Those working the skimmers near the shore line are pulling up booms and making ready to head to safety too.  The booms could blow into wetlands during the storm and damage sensitive habitat.  There’s now a good chance that oil will push deeper into the wetlands and on to shore.
